Product Reviews

Name: Review:
I like the overall design and the build quality is good but the USB-A port is too exposed to potential scratches and damage, so extra handling care is required. The stitched on clip pouch beside the USB-A port is sewn on well, sturdy and practical, many small things can be placed inside, like a power bank, charging cables and a mobile phone etc. I have 2 Anker power banks, the 10000 and 20100, each fits inside the clip pouch fine but I found the 20100 feels more secure as you have to stretch the elasticated strap over the top of it to securely fasten.

As for charging, I was very pleased by the performance of the solar charger, BigBlue claims it is 14W but my own opinion is that the device is more closer to or actually 12W. This calculation I've demonstrated may not be entirely accurate as I wasn't able to fully test the amps and watts input/output of the solar charger first. The solar charger performed better than I expected, on a clear sunny day I was able to charge my Anker 10000 from 25% to 50%, that's 2500mah to 5000mah in 1 hour 20 minutes.

I put the solar charger through its paces and tested it's IPX4 waterproof rating, didn't really want to get the device wet but felt I needed to test BigBlue's claim properly and thoroughly to see if they were right. Using my Anker 10000 power bank during a 20 minute light to medium continuous shower, the solar charger stopped working because the clouds became very dark grey.

After the rain had stopped and the clouds turned from dark to light grey the solar charger sprang into life again and the blue light on my Anker 10000 power bank began flashing. (Please refer to my photos for an accurate visual reference). You get a 65cm USB-A to USB-C cable and 2 carabiner clips on the box which are nice extras, both serve a practical use and the quality of them is decent. I purchased this solar charger when it was on sale, so got the device for £40 which I believe is a more realistic price than its RRP of nearly £60.

I recently purchased this solar charger with the intention of adding versatility to my off-grid kit, but I wasn't prepared for the mixed bag that was our first encounter. It seems that working with this particular solar charger requires a certain... let's say, finesse. On intermittent charging days when the sun is shining brightly, it's essential to exercise caution and avoid using your devices - it's easy to overcharge them, resulting in battery drain.

On days when the sun is more variable, such as those characterized by fleeting clouds or even good old-fashioned gloom, this solar charger tends to produce less consistent results. Specifically, on these intermittent charging days, I found that my phone would go from 75% charged to nearly dead - and I was left wondering why it had failed so miserably.

On sunny days in the northern UK, however, this solar charger has proven itself to be a reliable source of power, providing approximately 1000mA per hour into a portable power bank on average. While it's not ideal, at least it gets the job done - and I'm glad to report that it feels well-made, with a solid build quality.

I must admit, I was surprised by how compact this solar charger is when fitted in a trouser pocket - but let's not get too carried away here! It may squeeze a bit if you're packing tight clothing, but overall, the device performs admirably and offers good value for the price.

I've taken my portable camping solar panels on numerous hiking excursions in the UK and France, where they have provided an essential source of power for me and my devices. The durable fabric has withstood various weather conditions, and the simple yet effective design allows for easy setup and operation. One of the standout features is the two USB ports, which enable seamless charging of multiple devices simultaneously.

I've found that using both ports consistently delivers impressive results - although I do believe it's worth noting that a more optimal setup would involve utilizing both ports to get the most out of this product. The panels' maximum power output is capped at 2.0 amps per port, which may seem low compared to some other solar panel models, but they're still capable of delivering reliable power.

I've had anecdotally observed that while the panels perform well in direct sunlight, their performance waxes and wanes significantly in shaded conditions, with a notable dip when the sun is not directly overhead. To maximize output, I prefer to position them at 90 degrees to the sun if it's not directly overhead. In addition to this setup, pairing my solar panel with a portable battery pack has been a game-changer - by charging other devices using the built-in USB-C port, I've been able to keep multiple devices topped up and running.

I appreciate the display features of the product, which allow me to adjust its position to maximize output. Overall, I'm thoroughly satisfied with my portable camping solar panels, and would highly recommend them for anyone in need of a reliable off-grid power solution.
